I wake up and it’s dark now – this is the beginning of the hard slog which is the Autumn and Winter months in the UK. (Luckily, I’m going travelling soon – sorry!) Although, ironically, this time is my favourite time for fashion. As the Fashion month has come to an end, I have been inspired by the looks for A/W 2025 for right now. Here are a handful of looks I’ve put together for this season…
Denim denim denim
I realised when I was playing dress-up that I have been inspired by Western and cowboy silhouettes and textures. I’m super into big cuffs on my jeans aesthetically and practically - because I am delusional and buy jeans that are way too long for me.
Shoes
Boots are an obvious autumn staple but I just got these simple black leather boots from a charity shop so I’m obsessed with them and feel like I’ve invented wearing boots. I’m also loving these burgundy patent loafers, especially with my casual cowboy outfits because although understated, I feel like they play into the Wrong Shoe Theory which, if you’re unaware, is when you wear a shoe that ‘doesn’t go’ with the rest of the outfit’s vibe. For example, wearing a loafer - a traditionally formal office shoe - with jeans and a cap. I feel like Laini Ozark is the master of this - I have definitely taken inspiration from her for the outfit on the far right.
Workwear?
Similar to the Wrong Shoe Theory, wearing a traditionally formal button-up shirt styled casually is super chic. I am obsessed with the 90s Ralph Lauren vibe mixed with the Calvin Klein minimalism - Vogue has a great podcast which inspired the Disney+ documentary all about this. I’m not claiming to have invented wearing a shirt but I think that the combination of masculine and feminine is still relevant in fashion, especially as we’ve seen a lot of female suiting on the runway this season. For example, Saint Laurent has shown a lot of 70s and 80s silhouettes in their SS25 womenswear collection which I am loving - I think they create a sleazy and chic combination, especially with the styling on the runway with huge glasses and sunglasses. Obsessed.
Accessories
I love to wear the maximum amount of jewellery possible. I want to jingle when I walk. I also love mixed metals. Sue me.
Indie sleaze 2014 Alexa Chung
The inevitable is happening, the 2010s are coming back. And I, for one, am excited. There is this culture on the Internet when an old trend comes back, the ‘elders’ as it were try to warn the younger people following the trends to not do it! Don’t be like us! But, fashion is a pendulum swing so it will always come back to what it was 15-20 years prior. So, I think we should embrace it. It’s a bit of fun.
I have always been obsessed with Alexa Chung and I can’t wait to channel her in sheer black tights and perhaps a ballet flat.
Pop of colour
I’m loving the pop of colour with a fun sock under a more formal loafer, that’s the third mention of the Wrong Shoe Theory…
I know the pop-of-red trend is almost a meme in itself now on the fashion side of the internet but trend or not - a pop of colour looks great. The One/Ton/None styling by Tibi is a really great way to make your outfits pop in terms of colour.
2010s Red Carpet
I know it’s controversial but I am dabbling in the dress-over-jeans-Ashley-Tisdale-on-the-red-carpet-core and loving it. I have also been seeing a lot of tying a silk scarf around the waistband to give a similar draping effect which I will definitely be trying.
So, those are a couple of looks I’m going to be wearing while listening to Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat but also Romance by Fontaines D.C. because I love to be full of contradictions.
